The Freedom of College
For the first time in many college student’s life, moving away from home and living on campus at college, the freedom student’s feel can be like a huge weight lifted off of their shoulders. Parental units are no longer around and for the first time in a student’s life, they get to make their own decisions and deal with the consequences.
The tramp stamp, the arm band, one drunken night; oh that Saturday night…then the next morning.
Aahh yes the first tattoo; the first sign of freedom and rebellion. Eighteen and legally an adult gives a student the right to vote and get a tattoo. Many times parents are not aware of the tattoo till a few months to a few years later; sometimes even after their child graduates!
Tattoos are part of the right of passage which expresses college freedom and creativity. As a parent, if you are not comfortable with your child getting a tattoo, speak to them about your feelings and hope that they hear your voice before heading down to the local tattoo shop.
If not, then your child will have something to remember that one night (or day) when they first got inked.
